Karan Johar is all set to make a bang entry as the new Bollywood director to come on the OTT platform. The filmmaker is all set to direct a big-budget series for Netflix. In the last few years, many other Bollywood filmmakers who have directed shows for OTT platforms have made a special place in the hearts of the audience by giving many hit soaps. From Sanjay Leela Bhansali to Zoya Akhtar, the names of many Bollywood filmmakers are included in this list who have made a bang with their first web series on OTT.
Anurag kashyap
The OTT show was directed by Anurag Kashyap several years before any other director came on the streaming platform. The ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ director had teamed up with Vikramaditya Motwane to make ‘Sacred Games’ for Netflix in 2018. The neo-noir crime thriller television series, based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel, starring Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Made his OTT debut show with ‘Hiramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. The show was released on Netflix on May 1. The show is based on the Indian Independence Revolution. The series depicts the confrontation between the prostitutes of Lahore’s red-light district of Hiramandi and the authorities during the British Raj. It stars actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badusha, Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman. The second season was announced a few months ago.
Anubhav Sinha
Anubhav Sinha directed the Netflix show ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ which is based on the hijacking of an Indian plane by Pakistani terrorists in 1999. It stars Vijay Verma, Pankaj Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Manoj Pahwa and Naseeruddin Shah. The show came into controversy after its release on August 29. The show has been accused of hiding the hijacking events. It has been accused of misrepresenting facts.
Reema Kagti
Reema Kagti debuted in the streaming world with the police procedural show ‘Roar’. It was released on Prime Video in 2023. Sonakshi Sinha played the role of a police officer who attempts to connect the dots of several women committing suicide one by one in a small village in the state of Rajasthan. Vijay Verma played the villain.
Zoya Akhtar
entered the OTT space with the Prime Video show ‘Made in Heaven’. The show revolves around the characters of Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur who work as wedding planners. It also stars Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh, Shashank Arora, and Shivangi Rastogi. The second season of the show was released last year, which introduced new characters played by Mona Singh, Ishwak Singh, and Trinetra.
Raj and DK
Raj and DK burst into the OTT space with their Prime Video show ‘The Family Man’ which was released in 2019. It became a hit upon release, with season 2 released two years later in 2021.

Vishal Bhardwaj adapted ‘Agatha Christie’s The Sittaford Mysteries’ for his debut OTT show. He directed ‘Charlie Chopra and the Mystery of Solang Valley’. Set in the snow-capped mountains of Himachal Pradesh, the series follows the journey of Charlie Chopra and his quest to unravel a dark mystery. It stars Vamika Gabbi, Naseeruddin Shah, Priyanshu Painyuli, Neena Gupta, Ratna Pathak Shah, Gulshan Grover, Lara Dutta, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Paoli Dam.
