Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday became the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India after completing 4,399 days in office and surpassed India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

This milestone for PM Modi comes after 12 years of service in the central government. On this occasion, he took to his Instagram handle and said, "The ultimate test of good governance is public service. Only those who consistently dedicate themselves with humility, diligence and devotion to duty gain the public's confidence."

What PM Modi had to say after the completion of 12 years of the government?

Previously, he posted a message to mark 12 years of the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had said, "The spirit of service and dedication towards nation-building has always been our great strength. Through relentless efforts, and the unwavering spirit of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas', in the last 12 years, we are building a strong and self-reliant India."

Sergio Gor congratulated

The U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India. The ambassador tweeted, "Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister. A truly remarkable milestone for your decades of service and leadership to India! Congratulations!"

PM Modi broke the record of Jawaharlal Nehru

From 1947 until his death in 1964, Nehru was the country's Prime Minister. His tenure included the period prior to India's first general election in 1951-52. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was in power for nearly 16 years; however, this period was divided into two separate tenures.

Since coming to power on May 26, 2014, PM Modi has been elected to the position twice consecutively in 2019 and 2024. He has become the Prime Minister for the third straight time.
