The Indian cricket team is currently busy playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the Australia tour. Team India is busy preparing for the third test match against Australia. The players of Team India who are not a part of this series are constantly trying their hand in domestic cricket. There is one such player who has been out of Team India for almost 3 years but is continuously playing domestic cricket. Now this player has suddenly been made the captain of the team. This player is Mayank Agarwal who has been out of Team India for a long time.

Mayank Agarwal played his last Test match for Team India in March 2022. Since then, he has been trying to make a comeback in Team India. Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal has been appointed the captain of his domestic team. Mayank Agarwal was appointed captain of Karnataka on 12 December for the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI cricket tournament to be held in Ahmedabad from 21 December to 5 January 2025. Shreyas Gopal has been made the vice-captain. Mayank could not perform well with the bat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. He scored 179 runs in 7 matches for Karnataka, which included only 1 half-century. During this, his average was 25.57 and strike rate was more than 150. 

The team failed in Syed Mushtaq

The Karnataka team led by Mayank Agarwal failed to make it to the knockouts of the current Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Karnataka will start its campaign against Mumbai on December 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Apart from Karnataka and Mumbai, Puducherry, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, Hyderabad and Nagaland have been placed in Group C.
