The romantic movie Jab We Met by Imtiaz Ali featuring Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor has solidified its position as an adored romantic film in Bollywood history. Geet and Aditya became famous leading characters who still receive great admiration from the audience of romantic comedy films. The film received numerous controversies along with its significant achievements similar to other widespread successes.
The project originally belonged to Bobby Deol but he was later replaced by Shahid Kapoor according to his revelation. Director Imtiaz Ali gave information about the casting changes by explaining events that happened behind the scenes in a recent interview.
The director Imtiaz Ali disclosed during his interview with Lallantop in 2023 his original plan to cast Bobby Deol in the lead role of Jab We Met since they had always been friends. The filmmaker disclosed how he stretched his waiting period to two years while Bobby finished his other projects before the start of production. Socha Na Tha required five whole years both for production and theatrical release. The timeframe while I planned to start a new film led me to hope that Bobby Deol would accept Jab We Met. According to the director the production of Socha Na Tha ended but he still delayed starting another film for two years until Bobby would begin it.
Imtiaz explained that Bobby Deol could not make a commitment to Jab We Met even though he waited an additional two years past the release of Socha Na Tha to begin the project. The monetary pressures arose when he completed his former project through five-year work and then waited another two-year period producing financial instability. The situation pushed him to choose the painful option of casting a new actor in place of Bobby Deol.
Bobby Deol had several professional opportunities from distinguished filmmakers to consider but he remained patient for those chances to arrive according to Imtiaz. Time and further delays of the movie made Imtiaz decide that waiting longer was no longer the appropriate strategy. I chose to drop the film because I worked on Socha Na Tha for five years following which two years passed without making another movie that caused serious financial trouble for me. I informed Bobby that we should avoid making this film. After deciding to drop the film project our working relationship will experience consequences.
Bobby Deol delivered his perspective on this matter during an interview with HuffPost India during 2017. During the interview he disclosed that he recommending Kareena Kapoor for the film before Shri Ashtvinayak Studio expressed interest in signing him as the lead. He proposed Imtiaz Ali to the studio since the director already had completed his script for the film.
Bobby Deol reacted with surprise after discovering that Ashtavinayak opted for Imtiaz Ali and Kareena Kapoor to work on Jab We Met. Bobby Deol became even more surprised to learn Kareena had chooses her then-partner Shahid Kapoor for the dual leading roles. According to Deol the film industry amazed him with its unexpected sequence of events.
Following his superb work in Animal with Sandeep Reddy Vanga Bobby Deol has successfully returned to the big screen. Several new projects await him as deol including Thalapathy 69 followed by Alpha, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Aryan Khan’s Netflix directorial and the Humraaz sequel.
