Team India Barbados News: The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma performed brilliantly and won the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. With this, India’s 17-year drought of winning the T20 World Cup also ended. The team had to fly to India, but due to the Beryl storm in Barbados, the team is stuck in the hotel. All flights have been canceled. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had issued a statement, in which he said that we have to wait. Meanwhile, now a good news has come out. Team India can soon fly back home.
Will return on this day!
The Indian team can fly home on Tuesday evening local time. Giving an update on the situation there, Barbados PM Mia Mottley has said that she hopes that the airport here, which was closed due to storm Beryl, will be operational in the next six to 12 hours. The team led by Rohit Sharma, support staff, some BCCI officials and the families of the players have been stranded in the hotel for the last two days due to storm Beryl.
Barbados PM gave a statement
The PM of Barbados said, ‘We hope, and we are working on it later today. We do not have to say anything about it in advance, but I am in touch with the airport personnel and they are now doing their final checks. We will make everything normal soon. There are many people who had to leave late last night or today or tomorrow morning. We want to make sure that we can facilitate those people. So I hope that the airport will open within the next six to 12 hours.’
The team will arrive by charter plane
BCCI secretary Jai Shah said in a statement, “We are stuck here. First we have to see how to get the players and everyone else out of here safely and then we will think about the welcome program after reaching India.” The team along with Jai Shah and other board officials were to leave for India via charter plane, but this could not be possible due to the airport being closed here. The BCCI is also trying to get the Indian media personnel who had come to cover the World Cup out of the storm-affected area. Shah said, “We were trying to get a charter plane for Monday, but this could not be done due to the airport being closed.”
Storm Beryl stopped everything
After Hurricane Beryl hit Barbados, everything was stopped there. Late on Sunday night, winds blew at a speed of about 130 miles per hour, which affected everyone. This category 4 storm was about 570 km east-southeast of Barbados. Due to this, flights also had to be cancelled. However, now the Prime Minister of Barbados has expressed hope that the situation will become normal soon.
