Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Suriya’s highly awaited Tamil film Retro, which is directed by Karthik Subbaraj, released to massive buzz. The pre-release hype spread due to the actor's unusual outfits, and from the trailer itself, it was evident that a lot of effort went into marketing the film.  
 
The initial excitement from fans translated into real revenue at the box office. The early numbers were favorable, although the energy experienced through the initial days of the week did not hold over into the weekend.  
 
Weekend dip causes issues despite ₹33.49 crore earnings over three days  
As per Sacnilk.com’s report, Retro grossed ₹33.49 crore during its first three days in India. Friday’s opening fetched an optimistic ₹19.25 crore, suggesting a strong weekend ahead. Though Saturday’s numbers typically see a surge, this time the figure fell to ₹6.49 crore, the lowest amount so far.  
 
According to the report, the total Tamil occupancy rate on Saturday was 38.49%, an indication of dwindling interest among cinegoers.  
 
Suriya’s Performace gets applause despite box office dip  
While the box office suffered a dip, so many Suriya fans have given him rave reviews for his role as Paarivel Kannan a.k.a Paari, a man with heavy and violent memory. Opposite him bolstered by Pooja Hedge who plays Rukmini (Rukku) did quite well and so did the audience so she has.

Also appearing were some of the stronger Joju George, Jayaram, Nassar and Prakash Raj which made for a good cast movie.

Ranging from Positive Reviews up to Fan Support are Signs Looking for Recovery.

Industry critics praised the movie when it came out, noting Suriya’s performance and emotions as one of the film’s highlights. Karthik Subbaraj, the director, also appreciated fans’ support on social media, where he posted a thank you note.

The upcoming days of the movie are looking critical. Retro still has to go through the cultural barometer. But can the film rebound and “Retro” it’s way onto the list of box office hits?
