The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday rejected a plea by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia seeking the return of his passport amid ongoing investigations in connection to the controversial show ‘India’s Got Latent’.

The apex court, however, stated that it may reconsider his request after the investigation concludes.

Interim Protection from Arrest Extended

While refusing to return his passport, the Supreme Court extended Allahbadia’s interim protection from arrest. The protection pertains to cases filed in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Jaipur following public backlash over alleged offensive content in his show.

Strong Remarks from the Bench

During the hearing, the court criticized the nature of Allahbadia’s content, remarking, "There is something dirty in his mind that is spread by this programme."

The bench emphasized the need for responsible content creation, especially given the influence of digital platforms on the public.

Allahbadia Submits Undertaking to Maintain Decency

In his defense, Allahbadia submitted a written undertaking to uphold decency in future content. He argued that the seizure of his passport was harming his livelihood, as he relies on international travel for hosting shows and attending events.

Investigation Update

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the prosecution, confirmed that Allahbadia had cooperated with investigators and appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) as required. He stated that the ongoing investigation would be completed within two weeks.

What’s Next?

With the court reserving further action until the conclusion of the probe, Ranveer Allahbadia remains under scrutiny. The final ruling on his passport release and any legal consequences will likely depend on the investigation outcomes in the coming weeks.
