Playback singer Sunitha Upadrashta, who also appears as a judge on reality shows, has come out to respond to 19-year-old Pravasthi Aaradhya’s claims on social media, where she accused the Padutha Theeyaga Silver Jubilee edition team of harassment, discrimination, and body shaming.

In the video, Pravasthi released, Sunitha directly confronted her and accused her of body shaming alongside stripping Pravasthi of all her achievement. Addressing some comments levelled against her, Sunitha stated, unlike many give up on Pravasthi, she has rooted for her since childhood and now expects a fully ready product in front of her.

Sunitha said: "No, this is actually not my bias. Emphasis is placed on whether the channel has broadcasting rights to the score.” She went on to argue, If the network does not possess the rights, the song cannot be sung, neither can it be shown on air. Airing it otherwise would cause a huge breach of contract. She said Pravasthi is not spared and would know that herself which applies to all reality shows’.

She further said that her responsibility does not reach above the stage and is not in relation with protecting the students from themselves. From all of this, quite a neatly put, Pravasthi, tell the whole truth, not the fragment you choose. Speaking on celebrating her elimination from the show, Sunitha said such claims sadden her but startle for being so disparate from reality.

Pravasthi alleged her elimination stemmed from personal biases. She went as far as accusing Sunitha for making negative remarks about her competencies unto fellow judge, MM Keeravaani, claiming that she was eavesdropping through her earpiece during rehearsals. She also brought up changed attitudes from lyricist Chandrabose alongside composer, MM Keeravaoni. In her words, the surrounding circumstances did not help her mental wellbeing.

In defense, Gnapika Entertainments, the show’s production house, uploaded a video outlining the set protocols for the show. They specified that:

Songs are given out according to the rights of the broadcaster.

A defined marking scheme is utilized to assess the performances of the participants.

Elimination only follows after every four episodes.

No instructions were passed on to Pravasthi regarding her outfits or behavior.

Completely denied body shaming allegations.

The production crew emphasized. All participants are subjected to fair treatment devoid of partiality and professionalism throughout the season.

Although some supported Pravasthi’s video, the backlash along with online bullying became excessive. This gave Sunitha and the production house an opportunity to defend themselves, stating their need to foster responsible dialogue in public discourse.
