Observed on Friday, April 25, 2025, Pradosh Vrat, or Pradosham in South India, falls on a Friday this year. It is believed Shukra (Venus) has a relationship with this occasion which is why it is called Shukra Pradosh Vrat. Worshippers of Lord Shiva undertake this vrat to seek divine grace cleanse their karmas, and develop spiritually.
What is Pradosh Vrat?
A Hindu fasting ritual, Pradosh Vrat is observed bi-monthly on the Trayodashi Tithi (13th day) in both Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) and Krishna Paksha (waning phase) of the moon. Devotees believe Lord Shiva's celestial influence is strongest during the 2-hour post-sunset period known as Pradosh Kaal, and thus, the vrat is observed during that time.
