A social media user counter claiming that Singer Shreya Ghoshal leaked confidential information that would destroy the country’s economy has caused a stir. The public has taken interest and has posted screenshots of a so-called article ‘interview’ by a top English news outlet on X (formerly Twitter). In our investigation, we discovered that most of the posts stem from a false narrative, and therefore the screenshot claiming to be dating Ilso Indian Express is indeed fake, and the English daily has yet to compose such an article.

Shreya Ghoshal is known to be a powerful singer in India having memorable bouts with the Indian Idol show. She was a judge on the popular TV Show that's led British publishing giant Sony to tell Ghoshal she “has more voice than we do”.

Ill-captioned screenshots, which have around 12.5 views claim, “These reaction means everyone is talking about it. What’s Next British newspaper? ”

You can read the original posts, which include that screenshot, through the link provided, as well as the archive link.

The Desk executed a Google reverse image search on the clickbait screenshot and came across several other users claiming to have purchased the screening rights and cross posted the same claim. One post can be accessed here, and can be archived here.

In the first instance, the Desk performed a targeted keyword search on Google but could not uncover any such report by The Indian Express. Upon clicking the link of the viral post however, we noticed several issues- there was no date mentioned in the article’s publication and the other hyperlinks when clicked, took us to Immediate Fastx™ which is a platform with a very appealing UI and allows free registration for any new users and the main link had ‘https://innews.fixedsight.mom/’ on it.

Here is the screenshot highlighting the same. The article stated the fans in her defense, went on to say that pouring such charges against Shreya Ghoshal who is alleged to have leaked certain confidential information was intended to damage the country’s economy is outrageous.

‘This incident happened snatching away the gleeful spirit of the audience during the live telecast of the program on Mirchi Plus which was ‘Shreya ghoshal’ where she more or less publicly flaunted another one of her legal sidelines. While this income source is perfectly legal, it has raised alarm on the part of knowing the information which can trigger mass retrenchment,’ read thereport.

For the next step of the investigation, the Desk went over the entire interview available on Mirchi Plus’s official YouTube channel. They managed to find any such discussion.

In the subsequent step of the inquiry, we sought clarification from The Indian Express team. In the response, the team noted that these ake web pages are portraying the brand as if they are part of The Indian Express and have been set up to dupe people, stating that they have been notifying readers. "We have been warning readers for two years. Characters and links keep changing,” the team responded. The Indian Express has specifically warned readers to be cautious of fake web pages and has published this warning as an article. The Desk then determined that the viral screenshot of Shreya Ghoshal was indeed fake and that she never made such a statement.
