Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Filmmaker Manish Gupta, the director behind the acclaimed courtroom drama Section 375, is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly attacking his driver with a knife in a violent dispute over unpaid wages.
The incident stems from a complaint filed by driver Alok Kumar Gaud. According to Gaud, he was hired by Gupta for a film shoot in Panvel, near Mumbai, and was promised a daily wage of Rs. 800. However, after 20 days of work, he was only paid Rs. 500 per day, resulting in a shortfall of Rs. 6,000.
When Gaud went to Gupta’s office in the Andheri area of Mumbai to demand the remaining payment, the situation reportedly escalated. Gaud alleges that after a heated argument over the money, Gupta attacked him with a sharp, paper-cutter-like knife, causing injuries to his hand and face.
Following the complaint, the Amboli police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the filmmaker. He has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon), Section 504 (intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
Manish Gupta is a known figure in Bollywood, having also written the screenplay for the blockbuster film Sarkar. His work on Section 375, which closely examines the complexities of the Indian legal system, adds a layer of irony to the current allegations he faces. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
