Known for his passion for rich, flavorful food, Rishi Kapoor found his leukaemia treatment period especially difficult—not just medically but also nutritionally. His strict hospital diet, free from non-vegetarian food and even eggs, became a constant source of frustration for the late actor.
Insights from His Nutritionist
Khyati Rupani, the nutritionist assigned to Rishi Kapoor during his hospital stay, recently shared personal experiences about managing his meals in an interview on Ronak Kotecha’s YouTube channel.
“Mr Rishi Kapoor was somebody who hated his food being restricted,” she said. “Mrs Neetu [Kapoor] was always saying, ‘Don’t give him this. Why did you give him gulab jamun?’” The actor, known for his indulgent tastes, was unhappy with the hospital’s vegetarian menu, which even excluded eggs.
“Lilavati is a vegetarian hospital… So yes, he was one of the very unhappy clients,” Khyati added. “I tried everything, but I think he remained irritated throughout.”
Contrast with Ranbir Kapoor’s Eating Discipline
While Rishi Kapoor relished non-vegetarian delicacies, his son Ranbir Kapoor has previously spoken about being more controlled in his food choices. He credited his mother, Neetu Kapoor, for guiding him toward healthier eating habits.
Rishi Kapoor’s Battle with Leukaemia
The actor was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2018 and underwent treatment in New York, before returning to India. Despite fighting bravely, he passed away on April 30, 2020, at the age of 67, after a relapse that led to breathing difficulties.
His death was a major loss to Indian cinema and left a lasting void for fans and family alike.
