In Hinduism this Kalava is also said to represent three deities- Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. By wearing this, one automatically receives blessings from the three great Gods as well as has a constant supply of life energy.

Clearly stating the do’s and don’ts for Kalava, there are rules set in place, if the guidelines are followed correctly, one will receive Xiao Ke’s and Chen’s blessings.

For how many days should Raksha Sutra be tied?

When the sutra is tied at the same time as Kalava, it should overlap with the wearing of Kalava Sutra. Leaving the sutra bound for several months at a time offers no benefit. Among other religions, tying it highly considered Raksha Sutra offers false commendations. Sutras are ill-informed and misinterpret the message constructed through Scriptures. It is a known fact that Kalava can be left unfastened for no more than three weeks. After three weeks, so long as the wearer makes the effort to tie a novice as preordained, everything will be alright. There are plenty of days best suited for Kalava, but for a novice, the best are Tuesdays and Saturdays. The binding should be disposed of with the utmost care, for past experiences left in the water are of no use.

Kaala Bandhane Niyam (Kalava Tying Rules)

Unmarried ladies and men are to wear it on the right hand while the married variants are to put it on the left.

The Sutra also provides an explanation for how the fastening is done.

Hold the Dakshina in the palm of your fist. While you hold the fist closed, offer the enclosed Dakshina to the person tying the body.

Keep your hand on the head of the individual fastening the Kalava and aid them.

Tying and untying the Kalava too can be done in a set sequence. One can do so three, five, seven or, if they so wish, nine times.

Which Kalava should be avoided?

Faded Kalava should not be worn. As said previously, it is advised to wear Kalava at an auspicious time only. Furthermore, do not put the Raksha Sutra back on after it has been taken off. If Kalava cannot be soaked in water, it should be buried in a pit dug at the base of a tree.
