Papmochani Ekadashi is observed during the Krishna Paksha of the Chaitra month. In 2025, the Ekadashi Tithi starts at 5:05 AM on March 25 and ends at 3:45 AM on March 26. Based on sunrise (Udaya Tithi), March 25 (Tuesday) will be observed as Papmochani Ekadashi by most devotees. However, Vaishnav followers will observe the fast on March 26 (Wednesday).

Papmochani Ekadashi Parana (Fast Breaking) Time

  • For March 25 fast observers: Break the fast between 1:56 PM and 4:23 PM on March 26.
  • For March 26 fast observers (Vaishnavs): Break the fast between 6:17 AM and 8:45 AM on March 27.

Spiritual Significance of Papmochani Ekadashi

Papmochani Ekadashi is believed to free devotees from all past sins ("paap") and offer spiritual liberation. Worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day with devotion, fasting, and adherence to religious discipline ensures divine blessings, peace, and prosperity.

What Not to Do on Papmochani Ekadashi

Observing Ekadashi requires strict discipline. Avoiding certain actions is considered essential for gaining full spiritual merit.

  • Avoid onion, garlic, and pungent foods.
  • Do not eat rice, lentils, brinjal, spinach, turnips, carrots, or cabbage.
  • Refrain from cutting nails or hair.
  • Do not pluck Tulsi leaves or water the Tulsi plant.
  • Absolutely avoid meat and alcohol, as these are considered serious violations on this sacred day.
