As part of their ongoing legal feud with their former agency ADOR, NewJeans attended the first round of court interrogations on March 7. The controversy about the group's contractual relations with ADOR is being adjudicated at the Seoul Central District Court. Even though all five members — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein – did not have to be there, they each chose to attend in person and arrived at the court dressed in black.
During her testimony, it was her interactions with former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin that received the most attention, and Danielle’s remarks were no different. The backlash Danielle has received, and the concern from many netizens about the young idol's mental health and her complicated relationship with Min Hee-jin, shows just how troubling her comments were.
What did Danielle say?
Danielle's comments, particularly about ADOR’s CEO Min Hee-jin, are the subject of headlines for Makoto Kakehi, who claims to have her remarks on record. Comments that caught attention included, "We have six members now," where she expressed concern both for Min Hee-jin and her intentions to try to resolve the controversy in a way that would allow constructive engagement.
As I have heard, she said, “We try to be sensitive to each member’s condition, so we are always worried about injuries and illnesses.” She continued, “While there are five of us on stage, we are actually a team of six, including our CEO, Min Hee-jin. Watching her getting beaten up and attacking her and reading all these ridiculous articles, I was so scared that I was going to lose her.” In the last remarks, she made very strong remarks saying, “I want to stay with CEO Min Hee-jin now and in the future.”

Del’s comments instantly generated responses from netizens who worried the group was overly reliant on Min Hee-jin. Some thought the comments were due to the influence the ex CEO had over her accusing her of “brainwashing” the members.
The remark about thinking of Min Hee-jin as the six member of the group was most controversial and raised the fans eyebrows, adding to the debate on what type of relationship they have. A lot of people talked about this on Reddit, while some expressed their worries through X (Twitter).
One person stated, "Danielle is in love with Min Hee-jin. Just picture someone from a whole different group saying this about their CEO."
Another commenter stated, “Danielle seems to not be able to conceive a world, her world, without Min Hee-jin in it.”
Someone else elaborated, “It’s sickening that to me, Danielle describes Min Hee-jin as part of their group just like ?? Alright, good riddance, why does that woman have supporters?”
On Reddit, one person proposed, “The court ought to bring in a child/youth psychologist for consultation…”
Another commenter wrote: “Afraid of losing her is what you say when you think your girl is about to dump you.”
One more commented: “Nah, she needs help, like actually, this is so alarming.”
About the case
This is one of the cases in the continuing dispute between ADOR and NewJeans on the enforcement of their exclusive contract. ADOR claims that the contract is still in force and accuses the group of breach because they transformed into NJZ. On the other hand, the girls claim that they have legally unbundled the contract and therefore are free to promote without ADOR's participation.
