Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad Stopped by Police Ahead of Visited to Riot-Tense Thakurdwara over Dalit Oppression Claims
The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district has taken a volatile turn. Nagina constituency Member of Parliament (MP) and Azad Samaj Party chief, Chandrashekhar Azad, was abruptly intercepted and stopped by the police administration on Tuesday afternoon while he was on his way to Kalyanpur in the Thakurdwara area. The region is currently experiencing acute social and political unrest following a series of highly sensitive allegations concerning the oppression and harassment of the local Dalit community.
Heavy Police Deployment and Standoff at the Border
According to on-ground reporter inputs, the incident transpired at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday. MP Chandrashekhar Azad, accompanied by a large convoy of his party workers and supporters, was moving towards Thakurdwara from the Seohara region of the neighboring Bijnor district.
However, a heavy contingent of police officers and administrative officials had already barricaded the route. The authorities intercepted the MP's convoy midway, citing grave law and order concerns. Senior police officials explicitly informed the lawmaker that a massive crowd had gathered at the destination, and his entry into the village could potentially trigger a volatile communal or caste-based flare-up in an already sensitive atmosphere.
Detained at the Sugar Mill Guest House
Following a heated verbal exchange between the police officials and Azad’s supporters, the administration managed to pacify the situation temporarily by escorting the Nagina MP to the Awadh Sugar Mill guest house.
He was placed under administrative detention inside the guest house, where a panel of top-tier bureaucrats and police officers are continuously engaged in high-level talks to convince him to call off his march. Despite hours of closed-door persuasion, the atmosphere remains highly charged, with hundreds of supporters assembling outside the guest house, raising slogans against the administration.
'Should I Come After They Die?' – Chandrashekhar Lashes Out at Administration
Expressing his deep angst and resentment over the police action, MP Chandrashekhar Azad delivered a scathing statement detailing the chain of events that compelled him to take the road to Thakurdwara.
"I am a public representative, an MP chosen by the people. I am only going there to listen to the pain, agony, and grievances of the Dalit community members who are facing systematic oppression," Azad stated.
The MP further revealed a disturbing twist to the ongoing local dispute. He alleged that after he initially intervened over the phone and directed the police-administration to act, a case was registered against the perpetrators who were harassing the Dalit community. However, in a shocking turn of events just two days later, the local police allegedly registered cross-cases, falsely implicating the victims from the Dalit community itself.
"The victims sent me heartbreaking videos from the ground, desperately asking me, 'Will you only come to save us after we die?'. This profound pain and helplessness of my people shook my conscience. No force can stop me from standing with the weak and oppressed," Azad asserted, making it clear that he will not back down easily.
The Ground Reality in Kalyanpur
The administration remains on high alert with additional forces deployed throughout the Thakurdwara and Kalyanpur blocks to prevent any untoward incidents. The police maintain that their primary objective is to maintain peace and prevent any political leader from capitalizing on the communal undertones of the local dispute. Meanwhile, the political gridlock between the Azad Samaj Party chief and the Uttar Pradesh administration continues to escalate, keeping the entire region on a knife-edge.
