Nag Panchami 2024

In South India, on the day of Nag Panchami, snakes are made from red sandalwood on a wooden stand. Statues of yellow or black snakes are made or bought from clay and they are worshipped with milk. In many houses, a place for worship is made by applying ochre on the wall. Then on that wall, the shape of a house is made by rubbing coal in raw milk and snakes are made and worshipped inside it. Also, some people make the shape of snakes on both sides of the main door of the house with turmeric, sandalwood ink, or cow dung and worship them.

Significance of Nag Panchami

Snakes have always had an important place among our gods. Lord Vishnu sleeps on the bed of Shesh Naag and Lord Shankar wears snakes around his neck as Yagyopaveet. In the Bhagwad Gita, Lord Krishna has called himself Vasuki among snakes and Anant among snakes. This festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated to get rid of the fear of snake bites and to get rid of Kalsarp Dosh. So, if you also have any such fear or there is Kalsarp Dosh in your horoscope, then to get rid of it, you should worship these eight snakes today – Vasuki, Takshak, Kaliya, Manibhadra, Airavat, Dhritarashtra, Karkotak and Dhananjay.
