Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni recently connected over the phone to discuss a range of important global and bilateral issues. Their conversation highlighted the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.

A key topic was the ongoing effort to finalize a free trade agreement between India and the European Union PM Modi specifically thanked PM Meloni for Italy's active support in moving this significant trade deal forward.

The two leaders also talked about the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), a major infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting connectivity They reviewed the progress of their strategic partnership, which covers areas like defense, security, space, and technology, reaffirming their commitment to the goals laid out in their joint action plan for 2025-29.

Beyond economic and strategic ties, the conversation touched on pressing global matters. Both leaders shared a common interest in seeing an early and peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. Looking ahead, PM Meloni expressed Italy's strong support for the AI Impact Summit, which India is set to host in 2026.

The call served to reinforce the deepening relationship between India and Italy, with both leaders agreeing to stay in close contact to continue their collaboration.
