The match that everybody has been waiting for: India - New Zeland ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is finally here. This extraordinary event will take place at the Dubai International stadium on Sunday, two-thirty pm Indian Standard Time . Indian star bowler Mohammed Shami may be rested for this match against New Zeland as he had some issues with his calf during the game against Pakistan.

Mohammed Shami may be rested

In this scenario, Punjab left arm pacer and emerging popular face of Indian cricket, Arshdeep Singh, can be used as a replacement in place of Shami because of the five left-handed batsmen in the New Zeland team. With the aid of Bowling mentor Morn Morkel, Arshdeep was able to get in a fair amount of practice. He put in work for 13 overs. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami seemed to have been taking it easy, allowing himself to bowl a mere 6 - 7 overs with a shortened run up.

'Coach' gave some important information on ‘updates’

Mohammed Shami sustained an injury during the match with Pakistan on February 23 and, Right after the third over, he had to receive treatment from the team physiotherapist for his right thigh. While Shami was set to get substituted for the remaining rounds, “K L. Rahul informed the media that it’s too soon to say if they would alter the winning combination. Ten Doeschate's suggestion was towards changing the bowling combination.” At the time of the practice session, the indications of the players made it clear that Mohammed Shami could be rested ahead of the semi final fixtures, which, in any case, was quite expected.

Why did Rishabh Pant get dropped from the team?

Apart from this, assistent coach of India Ryan Ten Deutsche said that it has been tough for star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant to follow the matches of the Champions Trophy from outside, but this is the nature of the game at this level. In the last two group matches, Rishabh Pant has been out of the playing eleven, while during the middle order batting KL RAHUL was keeping and performed well behind the stumps. Ryan Ten Deutsche said, ‘KL’s performance has been good. He did not get many opportunities because we had to keep Rishabh ready. We do not know when he will be needed, but it is good to have two great wicketkeepers in the team.’
