Everything has been quite different ever since AI shifted gears. After DeepSeek, China has now introduced Manus AI. It has been dubbed the world’s first genuine general AI agent since it autonomously thinks, plans, and executes without waiting for prompts. Unlike a chatbot, Manus AI aims to revolutionize the hyperautomation realm.
What can Manus not do? It is able to formulate comprehensive travel plans, conduct stock analyses, aid in course creation for instructors, even contrast between various insurance plans, and much more! And here’s the kicker – Manus AI keeps working even after being logged out. By the time the user comes back to Manus, the results are already waiting. With time, Manus also improves its understanding of user preferences.
A demo video demonstrating the AI features caught the attention of many users on X (formerly Twitter). In a mere few hours, the video received more than 200,000 views, leaving users sparing to get invitation codes. Just a few weeks back, another Chinese AI model, DeepSeek R1, took the internet by storm for being extremely powerful at a low cost. Manus has also been referred to as the Chinese version of OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini.
The demo illustrated Manus fully browsing the internet, web scraping, tool utilization, and even multitasking on fifty different screens, all seamlessly switching between X, Telegram, and other platforms with ease. This degree of automation is rather unprecedented.
Who is responsible for all of this is still undisclosed, as very little is revealed about the company. However, the demo was presented by Peak Ji Yichao, a Chinese entrepreneur notorious for developing the Mammoth mobile browser. This adds a layer of complexity as it indicates there is a larger tech ecosystem operating behind the scenes.
For those trying to figure out how to operate Manus, it’s quite straightforward. Simply input a prompt such as “Plan me a week long trip to Bali on a budget” and Manus delivers the rest. It autonomously browses the web, procures screenshots, records activity and delivers a structured output in real-time.
A significant shift towards AI-assisted browsing is emerging, with multiple companies trying to implement their own smart technologies. Regardless, Manus AI seems to take a different approach. Rather than being just another artificial intelligence powered chatbot, it is an intelligent assistant that actually performs tasks. It's still uncertain if Manus will shift the way we interact with AI for the better, however, it has certainly gotten people talking.
