
LPG Price Hikes: The respite offered approximately a month ago alongside the budget has disappeared, especially for LPG users. The price of LPG cylinders increased in the festive season of Holi and Ramzan. Beginning March 1, 2025, government owned oil companies will increase the rates of 19 kg commercial cylinder. The cylinder cost was reduced by Rs 7 on February 1, 2025 but has increased by Rs 6 today. The value of the 19 kg commercial gas cylinder in Delhi now stands at Rs 1803, an increase of Rs 6 from the previous Rs 1797.
Changes in prices are quite likely on the first of a given month
Let it be known that the commercial gas and LPG cylinder prices are reviewed by government owned oil companies at the onset of every month. The changes in rates are more likely during this period. In this particular month, Holi, Eid and Ramadan will all fall during the same time-frame, having their first day on March 2. During this time, the oil supplying firms have raised the quota of commercial LPG cylinders. The cost of the 19 kg incorporates an increase of 6 rupees, further heightening the level of 1803 rupees for Delhi.
The rise in rates of all four metros has had an impact on all the regions of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. Other than Delhi, the prices of the cylinder in Kolkata has increased to Rs 1913 from Rs 1907, in Mumbai to Rs 1755.50 from Rs 1749.50. In Chennai, instead of Rs 1959.50, now one will have to pay instead Rs 1965. On the other hand, companies have not made any change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders. There has been no adjustment to the price of domestic cylinders since August 1, 2024.
Rates of domestic LPG cylinders:
A domestic 14 kg gas cylinder is available in Delhi at the same rate as other metros around ₹803 from 1 August suppose changes on 1 March 2025. While delivery rates in Kolkata stands at $829, Nippon now keeps prices at $802.50 in Mumbai and $818.50 in Chennai. While 14 kg LPG cylinders in Lucknow stand at $840.50, the 19 kg cylinder costs $1918. Increasing food prices in restaurants due to rising commercial LPG cost may contribute to a higher food cost index.
