Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : When necessary, He can take an incredibly fierce form. The Shiva Purana says that Lord Shiva took on an extremely fierce avatar when egoism grew on Earth. One such immensely fierce avatar was Kaal Bhairav.

At this point a question might arise in your mind that why did Lord Shiva take on such a ferocious form, let's explain the reason in detail in this article.

The story of Kalbhairav's avatar.

According to the legend once, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu had a debate on who among them is the superior creator of this universe. During this debate, Lord Brahma proclaimed himself as the greater creator of this universe, but later Lord Brahma and Vishnu approached sages and saints and declared Lord Shiva as the supreme creator of the universe. Listening to the words of the sages, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu began to laugh. Lord Brahma became resentful of Lord Shiva and in his arrogance and wrath cursed Lord Shiva. Mahadev was angered by the disrespectful attitude of Lord Brahma and in the same manner, was insulted by Lord Brahma. At such point, Mahadev manifested as a fearsome avatar. Kaal Bhairav was then born out of this fierce avatar. In order to relieve Brahma from his ego and arrogance, Kaal Bhairav beheaded him. He thus was convicted of Brahmahatya sin.

Pilgrimage of Kal Bhairav:
At such point Mahadev advised Kal Bhairav to do a pilgrimage to atone for his Brahmahatya sin. Acting on the instructions of Lord Shiva, Kal Bhairav embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage and after a long arduous journey, Kal Bhairav reached Kashi, where he achieved the knowledge to get himself free from the sin of Brahmahatya (killing a Brahmin) and later Mahadev appeared there after finding him in Kashi and made him the guardian of Kashi.
