Dispute and Changes in Scenes

The film 'L2: Empuraan' was deemed controversial for how it handled the 2002 Gujarat riots, depicting an angry figure who looked a lot like Babu Bajrangi, a convicted rioter, until his name was changed to “Baba Bajrangi.” The communal violence and furious assault of a pregnant Muslim woman were additional unethical examples.

The filmmakers attempted to calm backlash by making 24 cuts to the movie which includes the following:

No longer referring the antagonist as "Baba Bajrangi," but “Baldev.”

Removing or modifying scenes displaying violence against women.

Silencing the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in dialogue cuts.

The deletion of a “Special Thanks” line to BJP MP Suresh Gopi.

Mohanlal issued a public apology, “I wish to express regret over the anger from viewers. Insulting references have been cut and protected.”

Regardless of the issues the movie offers, 'L2: Empuraan' will release digitally on JioHotstar for everyone to access in 5 languages and countries worldwide, broadening its reach.
