
A serious road accident occurred in South Kolkata’s Thakurpukur area on Sunday morning, leaving one person dead and at least eight others critically injured. The driver, identified as Siddhant Das, a 35-year-old film and TV director, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The incident unfolded around 9:30 AM as Das’s SUV veered into a crowded market on Bakrahat Road, crashing into multiple pedestrians and two-wheelers.
Victim Identified; Driver Arrested
Aminur Rahman, a 63-year-old vegetable vendor, was one of the victims struck by the SUV. He suffered severe injuries and died shortly after being taken to a private hospital.
Police confirmed that Das was arrested at the scene. They also detained one woman who was in the vehicle with him, while another woman reportedly fled.
