Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has addressed concerns regarding the new Income Tax Bill, 2025, which is scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday. He emphasized that the bill retains the essence of the original draft while incorporating all amendments suggested by the select committee and accepted by the government.

Rijiju assured that the changes made reflect the hard work and suggestions accumulated over the past six months. He also dismissed apprehensions circulating on social media as unfounded, clarifying that it is normal parliamentary procedure to make numerous amendments to a bill after its initial introduction.

He explained the procedural details: each amendment must be moved individually by a member of the House or the person introducing the bill (in this case, the Finance Minister). For every amendment, the mover must first seek permission from the Lok Sabha Speaker. Once permission is granted, the amendment is moved for consideration by the Lok Sabha. If the House agrees to the amendment, it is then re-considered as part of the bill. This means that for each amendment, three distinct motions are required.

In summary, the new Income Tax Bill retains the core principles of the original while integrating all accepted amendments through the established parliamentary process.
