Kannada Actress Ranya Rao Arrested at Bengaluru Airport for Gold Smuggling:

Bengaluru: Kannada cinema performer Ranya Rao was taken into custody Tuesday evening at Kempegowda International Airport on account of gold smuggling from Dubai.

Along with many other passengers, the actress arrived at Bengaluru on an Emirates flight on Monday night. After screening for DRI officials, it was brought to light that she was possessing 14.80 kg of gold worth almost 6 crores. Her formal arrest was done at the DRI office in HBR Layout.

According to sources, Ranya’s initial claim during the preliminary investigation was that she was the daughter of Director General of Police K Ramachandra Rao.

Senior DRI officials reported that Ranya was suspected of partaking in a gold smuggling racket based in Dubai and she has had many trips to Dubai which are tipping the authorities off.

In the previous fortnight, she has been to Dubai four times. Officials were tipped off and waiting for her on Monday night at Bengaluru airport, whereupon she landed, she was detained for a search which led to confirming their theory, sources added.

Rao was crowned the leading actress of the 2014 Kannada film Maanikya which featured Kiccha Sudeep.
