Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has publicly criticized the Himachal Pradesh government after receiving an electricity bill of ₹1 lakh for her house in Mandi—a property where she currently does not reside. Speaking at a political event, she expressed disbelief and frustration over what she considers a major flaw in the state's administration.
Rising Costs for an Empty Residence
Kangana pointed out that the bill was issued for her Manali home, which has remained unoccupied. Her statement, now viral on social media, was captured in a video shared on platform X. In the clip, she remarked:
"Iss mahine mere Manali ka ghar ka ₹1 lakh bijli ka bill aaya, jaha main rehti bhi nahi hoon. Itni durdasha ki hui hai. Hum padhte hai aur sharmindagi hoti hai ke yeh kya ho raha hai..."
There is a wave of PM Modi in the entire country and saffron but it is painful to watch Himachal Pradesh's condition. The electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh came for my house in Manali..I don't even live there : Kangana Ranaut #HimachalPradesh #KanganaRanaut pic.twitter.com/Z1rVSbQoi1
(“This month, I received a ₹1 lakh electricity bill for my house in Manali, where I don't even live. The situation has become so miserable. We read about these things and feel ashamed — wondering what is really going on.”)
A Call for Change
She added that this situation reflects broader administrative inefficiencies and urged the public to take responsibility in pushing the state toward improvement. Referring to certain political elements as "wolves," Kangana suggested that these groups are hindering progress and must be addressed.
Kangana’s Political and Film Journey
Kangana was last seen in her self-directed political drama Emergency, portraying India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Despite delays and challenges, the film was released on January 17, 2025.
Her entry into politics has seen her actively participating in public issues, including infrastructure and governance, especially in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.
