All-rounder Jimmy Neesham is creating a buzz in differing T20 leagues around the world. While Neesham has most recently been included into the New Zealand squad for the five game T20 series against Pakistan, which will be Michael Bracewell’s first time captaining the team on home soil, his recent activities have gathered a lot of buzz.
A Herschelle Gibbs Moment in SA20
Neesham gave us all a memorable, albeit unfortunate, moment in the recently concluded SA20 league. During a match for the Pretoria Capitals, he famously dropped a catch from England’s Joe Root which, for all intents and purposes, looked like a routine catch to take. This drop will now forever be compared to the infamous drop by Herschelle Gibbs in the 1999 World Cup. This mistake that was made, according to commentator Pommie Mbangwa, resemble the blunder made by Gibbs allowed Root to score a pivotal half century that led to the Paarl Royals beating the Pretoria Capitals. Since then, the clip has done rounds on social media, giving cricket enthusiasts a light hearted moment to remember and Neesham, he is just like us.
BPL Bound: Joining Fortune Barishal
After completing his stint in SA20, Neesham will arrive at Fortune Barishal’s camp for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on February 7 for the Barishal’s finals match. At first, there was uncertainty regarding the team he was set to join, but it has now been confirmed that he will be replacing Faheem Ashraf who has been a significant contributor for Barishal during the entire tournament. This clearly shows how popular and in demand Neesham is in the world of T20 cricket. His participation in the BPL finale will definitely make the already exciting match even more exhilarating.
Neesham's Future Prospects
Even as Neesham adjusts to the impact of younger faces such as Michael Bracewell and Rachin Ravindra taking up the forward positions in the New Zealand XI, his exciting performances in the dominating T20 leagues tell a different story. With amazing on field skills supported by incredible off-field character, Neesham undoubtedly remains one of the most interesting cricketers to keep an eye on.
