The incident began when emergency crews were dispatched to a structure fire near Los Lunas, New Mexico. However, the call was a deliberate trap. Upon arrival, the first responders were immediately met with a hail of gunfire from a sniper who had positioned themselves for an attack.
Chilling audio from the police radio reveals the moment law enforcement realized the horrifying reality of the situation. An officer can be heard frantically warning others, "We have multiple people down. It’s a full-on ambush. We are still taking fire."

One firefighter was killed at the scene, and a second later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. Several police officers were also wounded in the exchange of gunfire as they tried to rescue the fallen and neutralize the threat.
A massive law enforcement response, including SWAT teams, quickly swarmed the area, leading to a tense standoff. After several hours, the suspect was found deceased on the property, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
This brutal attack on emergency personnel, who were targeted while trying to help, has sent shockwaves through the community and highlighted the profound dangers that first responders face in the line of duty. An investigation into the shooter's motives is now underway.
