India’s ‘Anuja,’ animated by Guneet Monga along with Priyanka Chopra and Mindy Kaling, lost the Oscar for Live Action Short Film award against I’m Not A Robot.

During the 2023 Academy Awards in Los Angeles, the category of Best Live Action Short was awarded to a Dutch production I’m Not A Robot. The Dutch production outperformed Anuja, India's emotional short film, in that category.

Like the other movies, the latter did not fall short in terms of competition with The Last Ranger, A Lien, and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent which were the presumable highlights of the contest.

Anuja is set in a garment factory in Delhi where a 9-year-old girl, played by Ananya Shanbhag, works with her elder sister Palak. The film, directed by Adam J. Graves, explores the pressures of a low income household and the impact on a young girl’s education.

The cast is rounded out by Sajda Pathan and Nagesh Bhosle, while the production is led by Guneet Monga, who serves as the executive producer. Joining her is Mindy Kaling from Hollywood and other global icons like Priyanka Chopra.
