It is considered a highly auspicious day for performing rituals for one's ancestors (Pitra Puja) to seek their blessings and peace for their souls. The Spiritual Significance and Key Rituals

The core belief behind Amavasya rituals is that on this day, the souls of our ancestors visit the earth. By performing specific ceremonies, we can show them our respect and help them find peace.

Pitra Tarpan (Ancestor Worship): This is the most important ritual of the day. Devotees offer water mixed with black sesame seeds (Tarpan) to their departed ancestors while facing the south. This act is believed to bring peace to the souls of the ancestors and relieve them of any suffering.

Pavitra Snan (Holy Dip): Taking a holy bath in sacred rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, or Godavari is considered highly meritorious. It is believed to cleanse a person of their sins.

Daan (Charity): Donating food, clothes, and money to Brahmins or the needy is a key practice on Amavasya. It is believed that these acts of charity reach our ancestors, bringing them satisfaction.

Alleviating Pitra Dosh: In Hindu astrology, "Pitra Dosh" is an affliction in one's horoscope caused by the dissatisfaction of ancestors. Performing rituals on Ashadha Amavasya is considered one of the most effective remedies to pacify the ancestors and remove this dosha, thereby clearing obstacles from one's life.

Fasting (Vrat): Many devout Hindus observe a fast on this day, consuming food only after the moon appears the next day. This is done to attain spiritual merit and show devotion.

In essence, Ashadha Amavasya is a powerful day for reflection, gratitude, and spiritual cleansing, strengthening the sacred bond between generations.
