The "Badlav Rally" in Moga's Killi Chahlan today was more than just a campaign kickoff; it was a formal divorce notice to the Shiromani Akali Dal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear that the era of the BJP playing "younger brother" to the Akalis is over.

Amit Shah’s Power Statement In a speech that set the tone for the 2027 polls, Shah stated, "Earlier, whenever we contested in Punjab, we came here as the chhota bhai (younger brother). But today, let me clarify that the BJP will contest in Punjab to form its own government in 2027." He centered his vision on two major promises:

Anti-Conversion Law: Vowing that the first bill of a BJP government would be to stop "forceful religious conversions."

Drug-Free Punjab: Pledging to end the drug menace in the state within two years of coming to power.

Sukhbir Badal’s Reaction: The "Principle" Defense Sukhbir Singh Badal, while addressing the party cadre following Shah's announcement, maintained a stance of regional pride and ideological firmness. His "big statement" focused on a few key pillars:

The "Panthic" Identity: Badal emphasized that the Shiromani Akali Dal is a party of principles that prioritizes the interests of Punjab and the Sikh Panth over any "power-sharing" formula.

Solo Strategy: He suggested that the SAD is fully prepared to contest alone, leaning on its deep-rooted rural organizational strength rather than relying on a coalition that requires compromising on state issues like the Rural Development Fund (RDF) or farmers' rights.

Attack on 'Remote Control' Politics: Mirroring Shah’s own criticism of the AAP, Badal argued that only a regional party like the Akalis can truly protect Punjab from "Delhi-centric" governance, whether from the AAP or the BJP.

The Road to 2027 This "Badlav Rally" marks a historic shift. For decades, the SAD-BJP alliance was the bedrock of Punjab politics. Now, with the BJP claiming a massive turnout in Moga and a rising vote share (over 18% in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls), the party believes it can replace the Akalis as the primary challenger to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.
