Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Bollywood music composer and singer Himesh Reshammiya, famous for his distinctive vocal style, recently had a fun and direct interaction with his audience about his much-discussed singing technique. During a lively performance at Mumbai's popular college festival, Umang, Reshammiya decided to address the long-standing conversation – some might say debate – about his "nasal" singing head-on.
In a video from the event that quickly went viral, Himesh paused his performance to speak to the enthusiastic crowd. He acknowledged the common perception, saying (in Hindi, which translates to), "Everyone says I sing through my nose." He then playfully put the choice to his fans: "So, should I sing regularly, or through my nose?"
The response was immediate and overwhelming. The young crowd roared its approval, clearly demanding his signature "naak se" (through the nose) delivery that catapulted him to fame.
Embracing their enthusiasm, Himesh then launched into some of his biggest chartbusters, including "Aashiq Banaya Aapne" and "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa," performed in the very style the audience had cheered for. His unique vocal delivery became a sensation in the mid-2000s, producing a string of hit songs that dominated the charts, despite (or perhaps because of) its polarizing nature. While some criticized it, millions grooved to his tunes, making it an undeniable part of that era's Bollywood music scene.
Beyond his live performances, Himesh Reshammiya continues to be active in the music industry. He is currently a judge on the popular singing reality show "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" and has film projects in the pipeline, including one titled "Badass Ravikumar."
This light-hearted moment at the college fest not only acknowledged the ongoing discussion around his singing but also showcased the strong connection and genuine affection fans still have for his trademark style, proving that for many, his "nasal" voice is an iconic and beloved sound.
