Closure Until Midnight: Britain's Heathrow airport will remain closed until midnight on March 21 of the current month due to an airport power outage following a fire at the airport. In a statement made, the airport said that fire at the substation that powers the airport is causing a major power drop. “To ensure the safety of passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will remain closed until 11:59 pm on the 21st March,” Heathrow Airport posted about the incident on X.
Apologies for any reportedly made issues while boarding the passengers were advised to call their specific airline for further assistance and not come in for the airport directly.
Leading causes of this include a substation fire located in the western part of the city that claimed a ‘large amount power of outage’ along with upwards of 16000 plus homes powered by it.
As reported by UK sourced media, upwards of 150 has been moved to secured locations. The London Fire Brigade said it has sent out 10 fire engines and around 70 fire team members controlling the area along with a security blockade spanning 200 meters.
The substation in question is located in Hayes which is in the Hillingdon Borough of London. Residents within the area have been instructed to remain within doors and close all windows to avoid inhaling smoke.
The airport stated, “Security facility at Heathrow had its electric power rationed because of a fire at the electric substation that provides power to the airport. For the safety of our customers and workers, the airport will remain closed until 2359 21 March.”
A spokesperson from the airport confirmed, “We know that the fire brigade is on the site, however, it is not apparent how long it will take for power to be restored… We are doing everything we can to fix the problem.”
