A police officer of a police department, which is supposed to stop drug peddlers and preserve the drugs seized from them, is itself allegedly involved in taking opium out of a seized consignment and hand over it to someone else in the district of Sirsa in Haryana.
An ASI Ranbir Singh posted in the Sirsa police has been arrested on charges of taking a part of a 90kg opium consignment seized by the police some time ago and transferring it to another person. Considering the seriousness of the matter, Haryana Police have sacked the involved ASI from service. Preparations are being made to take his police remand for his interrogation. The matter came to light following the seizure of 90 kg of opium in the area. Sirsa Police seized 90 kg of opium from a truck a few days back. This development came about after police from a neighboring district arrested a man named Shamsher Singh, from whom they recovered some opium. Fatehbad police informed Sirsa police of the man's testimony and following investigation, ASI Ranbir Singh was apprehended and promptly sacked by the police. Speaking to the media Sirsa ASP Adarshdeep Singh stated that while 90 kg of opium had been seized, part of the consignment was "illegally taken out," and assured that the involved ASI would be investigated. The case has now been handed over to the NCB Chandigarh which will attempt to unravel whether other individuals were involved or if the man was operating individually, with arrangements being made to apply for his police remand.
