Chandigarh PGI's emergency room is overcrowded; the hospital will be shifted to Sarangpur and the trauma center will also be expanded

Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : The emergency room of Chandigarh PGI is full, patients in Sarangpur and the trauma center will also be expanded. Health department to expand the trauma center. Due to the increasing pressure of patients on the hospital, PGI administration is looking at the option of shifting the emergency department to a new campus that is being built in Sarangpur.

Emergency ward of PGI, where there are 100 beds, is receiving around 200 critical patients every day.

This is such a condition that more than 500 patients keep crowding the emergency ward, making it difficult for patients to sit and their attendants to walk. 39.1 per cent of these patients come from Punjab alone, while 19.6 per cent come from Haryana due to the absence of specialist doctors and their reluctance to come to remote villages. According to PGI's annual report, in ten years the number of emergency patients increased to over 1.11 lakh. The institute administration is now trying to expand its emergency services to cater to emergency patients.

Once emergency ward of PGI is shifted to Sarangpur, it will be converted to trauma center which will also help reduce the overcrowding of the trauma center and its inconvenience to patients and staff.

Not enough specialist doctors in Haryana and Punjab: As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, rural areas of Punjab have to face such type of shortage of doctors. Health department cannot even fill all the approved posts at the beginning. Even out of these recruits, the specialists leaving their jobs in such cases keep on being replaced by other doctors.

Along with specialist doctors, health center also faces a shortage of nursing staff, the same is in Haryana also.
