Actress Hansika Motwani has approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash a criminal case filed by her sister-in-law, television actress Muskan Nancy James. The case, which also names Hansika’s mother Jyoti Motwani, includes allegations of cruelty and harassment.
The petition, filed through advocate Drishti Khurana, claims that the FIR is a retaliatory move related to an ongoing matrimonial dispute involving Hansika’s brother, Prashant Motwani, and his ex-wife Muskan.
Allegations and Response
In her petition, Hansika stated that the FIR was motivated by a demand she made for the repayment of ₹27 lakh, which she claimed to have lent Muskan’s family for wedding expenses.
“The FIR appears to be a retaliatory measure aimed at pressuring Motwani and her family into a financial settlement,” the petition said. It also dismissed allegations of assault and verbal abuse, citing a lack of evidence.
Details of the Complaint by Muskan Nancy James
Muskan has alleged that Hansika and her mother demanded ₹20 lakh for wedding expenses and luxury gifts, and manipulated her husband, Prashant, during their marriage.
She further claimed that Hansika interfered with her career and personal life, dictated her behavior, and even installed hidden CCTV cameras in her residence without consent.
The FIR filed on December 18, 2024, with Amboli Police Station names Hansika, Jyoti, and Prashant Motwani under IPC sections 498A, 323, 504, and 506 for cruelty, assault, and intimidation. Hansika and her mother were granted bail in February 2025.
Legal Proceedings Ahead
The case is currently under review by a division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justices Sarang Kotwal and SM Modak. The next hearing is scheduled for July 3, 2025.
Muskan and Prashant were married in 2021 and divorced in December 2022, following which the legal dispute escalated.
