Yogesh Kadam on Pune Rape Case: A Pune-based woman, who is 26 years old, was raped, which has triggered a political controversy. There are some unusual statements coming forth as well. Maharashtra Government’s State Minister for Home Yogesh Kadam’s comments on this incident seem to have gifted the opposition some point to condemn the government. As for Congress, his comments have angered them as he said, “the incident happened in a peaceful manner inside the bus stand, and the victim did not make any noise in spite of the presence of 10-15 people.” His remarks show a complete lack of compassion for the women’s plight.
What do you expect from someone who makes such idiotic statements?
In fact, Congress statement comes along with the contention of Harshvardhan Sapkal, who is the President of Maharashtra Congress, who suggested that in light of such an ill-fated tragedy, it is nearly impossible to speculate how a victim would react, and hence hiding behind such marvelously absurd logic of the minister is simply not going to work. Such publicly exposed uninformed ninnies deserve no further public office and should be retired immediately. Undoubtedly, the minister stands with the victim, and not the accused, and this is the question that Congress raised. Besides this, Sapkal accused the Maharashtra government of trying to create a rift within the society in order to cover up their administrative incompetence.
Requirement of 14 days detention
In the meantime, a Pune court has placed the defendant of this case, Dattatreya Ramdas Gade, under police custody until March 12. The police managed to capture him while he was working in a paddy field in Shirur tehsil with the aid of drones and sniffer dogs. The accused is said to have conversed with the girl at the Swargate bus terminal and later used the term ‘didi’ in an attempt to placate her and subsequently boarded the Shivshahi bus with her and sexually assaulted her. From the court, the police had sought the accused's 14 days detention.
This event has brought up the issue of women’s safety in the state, which had been dormant for a while. The opposition has pointed fingers towards the lack of governance and law and order, branding it a government failure. Congress said that the safety of woman will be dubious as long as the government is led by leaders who make such irresponsible comments. Agency input
