Chetan Singh Chaudhary, a former Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable accused of a 2023 shooting incident on a train near Mumbai, is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation for psychosis. A preliminary report submitted by Thane mental hospital states that he is under medical observation after displaying abnormal behavior.

The Thane jail, where Chaudhary is in custody, submitted the medical report to the court as requested. According to the hospital board, he was admitted on February 20 and is being treated by a team of doctors. A comprehensive evaluation report is expected in one month.

2023 Train Incident: Accused Fatally Shot Four, Including Senior Officer

On July 31, 2023, Chaudhary allegedly shot and killed his senior, ASI Tikaram Meena, and three passengers aboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express near Palghar, Maharashtra. He used his official weapon in the attack.

Witnesses report that the incident began in coach B-5, followed by additional shootings in the pantry car and coach S-6. The situation came under control when passengers pulled the emergency chain near Mira Road station. Chaudhary was apprehended while trying to flee and his weapon was recovered on the spot.

IPC Section 153-A (promoting enmity between groups)

Railways Act provisions

Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act

The police have confirmed that the accused remains in judicial custody pending psychiatric evaluation and further court proceedings.
