Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Mumbai Indians struggled as Santner and Sharma brought the game back into their control while Delhi Capitals endured a losing streak. Before their face-off on 13 April, DC had won 4 matches in a row while MI had a single win in 5. The earlier mentioned streak allowed Karun Nair to enjoy some calm as they continued their streak against the MI, however their winning streak was almost single-handedly brought to an end by Karn Sharma and Santner.
By the time Santner arrived, it was already too late for him to be of any assistance and no help was provided before his first delivery.
Another pathetic performance by DC’s bowlers agains the pathetic performance of Mumbai Indians.
After a rather sluggish start, MI proved the ease with which they could overcome DC’s bowlers by finishing the game having scored far more than the average 4.7 they have been performing at throughout the season. 132/5 in 18 overs allows them to finish with a score of 147/6. It was the failure of DC’s bowlers that allowed Dhir and Yadav to shine. Had they started off properly, DC wouldn’t have finished at this score.
Currently capped with a large 9.95 runs per game, DC’s bowlers hold the record for the most conceded runs per over this season. It hasn’t been all horrible news for them this season, in 2025 they acquired the ever so valuable Mitchell Starc, but since he arrived, their performance has only gotten worse. Among the other teams who have barely completed the bare minimum in seam overs and in terms of claimed out bowlers.
IPL 2025 Fast Bowling Stats Reflect DC's Struggles
DC seems to be suffering the most under the weight of the economy rate- their fast bowlers as a team rank lowest in wickets taken (32) and have an economy of 10.28. Starc performed the best out of all with 11 wickets over 6 victories including 5 for runs in one game and Super over performances changing the match. After his departure strategy has suffered with chameera only having 4 wickets over 5 games with an economy of 11.40.
Other seam options have fared no better. Two have underperformed with Mohit Sharma recording two wickets over twenty one overs, and T Natarajan got taken for 49 runs in 3 overs for his only appearance.
Death Overs Data Shows Starc’s Absence Was Costly
DC has given in the death overs (16-20) the least amount of runs for an economy average of 11.07, one of the lowest in the league over. Thanks to his uncomparable performance Starc’s numbers alone were great 7 for 81 in 9 overs ER: 9 while the rest combined have gone for 7/340 in 28.3 overs ER: 11.93 which equates to $83. If no-opprove this lack of star power was clearly the difference in the match outcome, notably because Axar Patel was unavailable for illness.
Starc’s death overs performance was spectacular. For flights of in-sag value these zones DC gave away the most.
He could have constrained Suryakumar Yadav who has a historically high record of enduring innings against tenders.
