Suspense crime, Digital Desk : After India undertook airstrikes on terror targets within Pakistan, China has urged both parties to exercise restraint and further escalations of conflict. The Chinese Foreign Ministry termed the strike ‘regrettable’ stressing on the need for regional peace.
Both India and Pakistan are close neighbors and also China’s neighbors. So, we urge both sides to remain cool headed and avert escalation and prioritize stability,” went the statement.
Geopolitical Maneuvering: Xi Rose to Russia
Just when Indian military operations were launched, Chinese President Xi Jinping was headed to Russia for a four day visit. This happens to coincide on the 80th anniversary of the Soviets’ WWII victory and has scheduled Putin talks.
Increased Focus on Diplomacy
Unlike past stands, China has openly condemned the April terror attack in Pahalgam demanding swift and unbiased investigation. JSONObject diplomacy with Pakistan has increased markedly in the last few days.
Pakistani Deputy PM cum Foreign minister Ishaq Dar had a talk with China Foreign Minister Wang Yi on April 27. Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has also been meeting the Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
China's Stance on Pakistan’s Security Needs Has Not Changed
While discussing issues of concern, Yi Wang made it clear that China is monitoring the situation very closely. “Terrorism needs a global response,” Wang said on Rising China’s Foreign Policy Strategy. Wang further claimed, “China fosters an unbiased investigation. This ongoing war is detrimental for India, Pakistan, and global peace.” China confirmed its position regarding Pakistan’s defensive military needs, calling the relationship ‘ironclad’.”
