Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In light of the latest discoveries indicating the need for caution and restraint in public comments, England's head coach, Brendon McCullum, has advised his players to demonstrate greater maturity in public settings. As the Scaffold of England over the years and England's highly aggressive new era of Test cricket with a bold, high tempo and pace approach, McCullum now seems to be concerned about bringing the exact same aggression off the field.
England's franchise crazy and overly aggressive approach to ‘crowd-pleasing’ entertainment under McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes 'fighting the generational monster power' drew a lot of headlines and public praise, however the backlash was simply scope for concern followed by poor overseas showings. The huge lack of public scrutiny was followed with equal measures of blatant anger at the focus of their gameplay and not the way the players were so candid disrespectful in the media.
McCullum Shifts the Focus to ‘Dressing Room’ Chatter
Speaking to the media, McCullum made it clear that dressing room banter, public messaging and general decorum are completely different subjects that must be, perhaps similarly to fashion, window shopped separately if not glued together.
“We just need to be a bit more careful with some of our comments,” McCullum said. “What we say in the dressing room is usually very different from what is expected to be released into the public domain.”
“That balance needs to be appreciated and smart enough to ensure that we phrase things so that we do not become disconnected from the English people.”
Coming Up: The India Series and the Ashes Will Define Who They Are as a Team
McCullum accepted that the recent outcomes have not fully worked for the team, although he is still hopeful. Englands’ set to face Zimbabwe in a one-off Test, then there’s an India series at home, and an away Ashes series in Australia - hallmark periods of public opinion and performance alignment.
Without marked performance inconsistencies, England is still ranked 2nd in Test cricket, which for McCullum, is some form of progress, if not ideal.
Developing skills off and on the field goes hand in hand with character.
Results aside, McCullum has focused on the development character and is calling on players to attend to their public engagement more closely.
“You know, it’s not only what you do on the cricket field, but how you move outside it. How you present yourself to the public,” he noted.
"To play under extreme pressure is one thing, but to remain connected to the public while simultaneously remaining humble is an area I hope we improve on.”
Last Words: Contemplate Accomplishments and Consider Upcoming Hurdles
“The cursory break in action opens such a window and now is a very good time to analyze everything that has led us to this stage,” reflects McCullum.
England’s Test side is still on the path to gain further milestones, but his reminder is without fail, balance on-field displays with off-field attitude and approach.”
