The political landscape in Bihar is shifting once again, and this time, the "Khela" (game) has begun within the RJD camp. In a move that has caught many by surprise, former Gopalganj MLA Riyazul Haq, popularly known as Raju, has officially cut ties with Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi’s RJD to join Nitish Kumar’s JDU.

This isn't just a solo departure; Haq was joined by dozens of supporters and local leaders, signaling a deeper rift in the opposition’s grassroots strength.

The Membership Ceremony

The transition took place on Wednesday at the JDU state headquarters in Patna. JDU State President Umesh Singh Kushwaha personally welcomed Riyazul Haq into the party fold. Speaking at the event, Kushwaha emphasized that Nitish Kumar’s family is constantly growing because of his inclusive leadership.

"Riyazul Haq is a leader with a strong political base. His presence will make JDU even more powerful," Kushwaha remarked. He also took a swipe at the opposition, claiming they have only "confused" the minority community, while the Nitish government has taken "historic steps" for their welfare.

Who Else Switched Sides?

The defection wasn't limited to the former MLA. Several key figures from Gopalganj joined him, including:

Mohammad Qasim (Chairman, Gopalganj Municipal Council)

Ruksana Parveen (State Vice President, Minority Cell)

Mansoor Ansari (Vice Chairman, Municipal Council)

Yogendra Yadav (Former Mukhiya)

The event was attended by heavyweights like Minister Shravan Kumar and MLC Khalid Anwar, showcasing the importance JDU is placing on this acquisition.

A Post-Election Aftershock?

Following the NDA’s strong performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, rumors of a split within the RJD had been circulating for weeks. Riyazul Haq’s exit confirms that the "break-up" phase has started. For Tejashwi Yadav, losing a prominent minority face like Haq—especially from a stronghold like Gopalganj is a significant strategic setback.

As Nitish Kumar continues to consolidate his "Mission Expansion," the question remains: who will be the next to cross the aisle?
