After a week of record-breaking temperatures that saw the mercury soaring above 39°C in districts like Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh is finally due for a breather. The Meteorological Department has announced a significant weather shift starting this Friday, March 13, 2026, with rain and thunderstorms expected to last for the next four days.

The Forecast: A Gradual Shift The "scorching" phase, where temperatures were significantly above normal, is expected to give way to a cooling trend. While Thursday remained dry with Raipur hitting nearly 38°C, the arrival of a new weather system will bring a sudden drop in temperature by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius across the state.

Day-by-Day Breakdown of the Alert:

Friday, March 13: A Yellow Alert has been issued for the southern districts of Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada. Expect light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanied by winds of 30-40 kmph.

Saturday, March 14: The rain will spread to 8 districts, including Balod, Kanker, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, and Bastar.

Sunday & Monday (March 15-16): The IMD has issued a state-wide Yellow Alert. Almost every district in Chhattisgarh is likely to experience rain and thunderstorms, with gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph.

Why the Sudden Change? Meteorologists point to a change in wind direction and the activation of a local weather system that is drawing moisture into the central plains. For the residents of Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg, this means a temporary end to the "arbitrary" heat that made afternoon commutes almost impossible this week.

Safety First While the rain brings relief, the "Vajrapaat" (lightning) warning is serious. The department has advised citizens to avoid standing under tall trees or near electric poles during the thunderstorms.

As we move from "fire to water," this four-day window is a perfect time to prep your home for the unexpected moisture and enjoy the brief respite from what is looking to be a very long summer.
