Champions Trophy 2025: The Champions Trophy 2025 is to be organized on Pakistani soil. Pakistan is making every effort to ensure that the Champions Trophy is held there. But the Indian team’s visit to Pakistan has not been confirmed yet and the BCCI has left the final decision to the Indian government. The PCB has already announced the draft schedule of the Champions Trophy, in which all the matches of India were scheduled in Lahore. It was also said by the PCB that if Team India wants, it can come to Lahore only to play matches. Immediately after that, the team should return to India by special plane. But now Pakistan’s stance on the Champions Trophy seems to be softening.
The Champions Trophy may be organized on a hybrid model.
A reliable source in the PCB told PTI that the PCB feels that even if the Indian government does not approve the Pakistan tour, the schedule can be slightly changed as there is every possibility that India will play its matches in Dubai or Sharjah. The ICC cannot force any board to go against its government policy on its part and it will be interesting to see when the BCCI takes a final decision in this matter. The ICC will be chaired by India’s Jay Shah when the final decision is likely to be taken. Meanwhile, the PCB is putting pressure on the ICC to announce the tournament schedule by next week as some top officials of the global governing body are scheduled to visit Lahore again next week.
There is every possibility of India’s matches being held in UAE
According to a PTI report, the Champions Trophy could be held on a hybrid model, with Team India’s matches being held in the UAE. The last time Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup in 2023, it was also held on a ‘hybrid model’ with India playing their matches in Sri Lanka as the government refused to allow players to travel across the border.
PCB is spending crores of rupees on the renovation of the stadium
The source said the PCB has discussed with the ICC the tentative schedule they had sent a few months ago and wants the same to be announced on November 11. They have told the ICC that an alternative plan with a revised budget is already in place so there is no point in delaying the release of the tentative schedule. The source said the PCB wants the BCCI to give in writing whether they have received permission from their government to send their team to Pakistan. According to sources, the PCB is spending around Rs 13 billion on renovating its stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi where the Champions Trophy matches are scheduled to be held.
