Arunoday Singh on OTT Censorship, Creative Freedom, and His Role in Kanneda

Actor Arunoday Singh, known for his powerful performances, voices strong opinions on the growing debate around censorship in the OTT space. Speaking ahead of the release of Kanneda, Singh emphasized the need for creative freedom and warned against excessive regulation in digital entertainment.

Arunoday Singh’s Role in Kanneda

In Kanneda, Singh portrays Sarabjit, a Punjabi man who has spent a significant amount of time in Canada. His character becomes a mentor to Parmish Verma’s character, helping him adjust to a new environment.

“The storyline felt authentic, and I appreciated the character dynamics,” Singh said. “The theme of migration and adapting to new cultures resonated with me, having lived abroad myself.”

Performance, Preparation, and Action

Singh mentioned that he used a mix of personal experience and light research to shape his character. He didn’t base it on any specific real-life figure.

When asked about the film’s action sequences, he admitted that doing his own stunts is both rewarding and painful. “Stunts are the toughest part, but also the most fun,” he noted.

Exploring New Genres: “Someone Cast Me in a Rom-Com!”

Having played several intense roles in projects like Apharan, Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen, and Lahore Confidential, Singh expressed a desire to try lighter genres.

“People always give me intense roles. I’d love to do a rom-com or a heartwarming story,” he said, adding, “I’m waiting for someone to offer me something simple and sunny.”

View on OTT Platforms and Censorship

Singh acknowledged that OTT platforms have expanded storytelling possibilities and created space for diverse narratives and more nuanced characters. However, he also believes content creation should be more structured and responsible.

On censorship, Singh remains firm. “I don’t support total censorship. Unless something is done with hate or malice, showing life as it is shouldn’t be restricted.”

No Comment on Controversies, No New Projects Yet

When asked about current controversies like India’s Got Latent, Singh declined to comment. “I don’t care about those things,” he said plainly.

As for what’s next after Kanneda, Singh shared that no new projects have been finalized yet.
