Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the security of Manipur for the first time since the President’s rule was imposed in the state and violence ridden region mandated throughout the Northeastern state on the then prevailing conditions.
Since the commence of May 2023, Manipur has faced severe inter-communal clashes and skirmishes leading to the loss of over 250 lives.
“The home minister will review the security situation in Manipur on Saturday. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the administrator of the state along with senior officials from the Manipur Government, Army, and paramilitary forces will also be participants of the meeting,” the sources said.
Rule of the President in this Northeastern state was actualized on the 13th of February in direct context to N Biren Singh resigning from the Chief Minister position. The legislative assembly faces suspended animations for the period of 2027 elections.
Set on February 20, the public is required to willingly surrender all unauthorized arms into possession that pardon has been ordered to them. Since assuming office as the governor, Bhalla has been actively engaging with various stakeholders seeking views on how the scope of normalcy could be achieved with the northeastern state. This is what he mentioned on January 3.
According to the officials, Bhalla has also conducted a number of meetings in Manipur and instructed the security agencies on the boarder and other important locations where violence was reported.
This was only a year earlier, in August 2024, that Bhalla, who is now a former union home secretary, served under shha for several years, and it seems the minister has personally selected hiorded shshot to aide in restoring peace in troubling states.
The violence singularly started being reported after the Meitei community requested for the ‘TRIBAL SOLIDARITY’ march to be turned into a matter of ST (Scheduled Tribe ) status. This was in May 2023.
Despite there being feeble efforts from the central governemnt towards the warring tribes, permanent peace has still not been able to be achieved in the northeastern states.
