With the responsibility resting in the hands of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh government has now resumed the Amaravati capital city project, which had been halted since 2019. Drawing design inspiration from Amsterdam, Singapore, Tokyo, and other novel cities, the Amaravati city is projected to be developed on the banks of the Krishna river and envisioned as a "people’s capital".
The project marks a major infastructure initiative for the state and the estimated total cost will be Rs 65,000 crore.
The Amaravati project’s background
Conceptualized by the Telugu Desam Party in 2015, Amaravati is located 20km from Vijayawada, which is set to serve as the new state capital. Its estand initial scope of development was 217 square kilometers, but the scope was put on pause when the YSR Congress Party came into power during the state elections of 2019.
Post elections NDA alliance (TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena) won 164 out of 175 Assembly seats and 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, allowing them to revive the projects.
This provided the perfect window to resume the previously abandoned projects, allowing Naidu to reinforce that Amaravati city will be the sole state capital.
Centre Assistance and International Agencies
The Central Government has now provided financial assistance of Rs 4,200 crore Amaravati’s development. This development comes after the state received $205 million as part of its financial assistance from the World Bank.
Moreover, both the World Bank and Asian Development Bank has committed $800 million each, constituting the total amount of Rs 13,600 crores. The Central Government will add Rs 1,400 crores, thus making the phase one worth Rs 15,000 crores. The project was launched on January 22 and the first installment was issued the subsequent March.
These proposed feats would also mark the expansion of previously mentioned feats.
Further Phase Details and Enhancement Plans
As presented in the papers, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has the intentions plans to buy even more than 30,000 to 40,000 acres of land for constructing the infrastructure including an international airport. This would be in addition to the 34,241 acres which was acquired from 29,881 farmers in the Guntur District which was acquired during Naidu’s earlier tenure.
The master plan encompasses:
Government City (1,093 hectares): Administrative buildings and office spaces.
Justice City (1,339 hectares): All judicial and legal bodies.
Finance City (2,091 hectares): Financial center, business and retail space, and residential area.
It extends to encompass nine additional cities, noted as theme cities:

As previously noted, K Kannababu, APCRDA Commissioner mentioned, `Narendra Modi has been invited for the... released work. The entire cost of the project is set to cover 1 lakh crores from India.`
