Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Holding a toy Rafale decorated with lemons and chilies - a traditional Indian charm used to ward off bad luck - was a symbolic yet politically charged action by Congress president Ajay Rai. His intention was to mock what he describes as the Modi government's inefficient resource management when it comes to defense spending.
“Chili decorated hangars,” as stated by Rai, along with Rafale fighter jets are inconspicuously sitting around, waiting to be transformed into something functional. The incense-sipping pony operator and the rest of the deceased riders who had to stomach the brunt of the terror attack on Pahalgam are, in his eyes along with the ponies, while peace-loving citizens are left splattered in the mix. He further stated how “the government boasting over purchasing jets that will collect dust in their garages” will need to face action “by the terrorists they so willingly fund.”

This remark follows the signing of a Rs 63,000 crore defense contract with France for 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets, which are intended to enhance the air defense, reconnaissance, and maritime strike capabilities of the Indian Navy. The deal is pesented by the Modi government as a means to strengthen the Indian national defense.
Yet, Rai’s remarks show increasing political critique regarding the government’s management of internal security concerns, particularly after the Pahalgam attack, which is the most lethal one in Kashmir since 2019 after Article 370 was revoked. The attack was purportedly carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Rai's dramatized remarks pose an equally theatrical inquiry of the government - does purchasing state-of-the-art arms serve any purpose if they are not utilized properly in the protection of the country?
