New Delhi: Your flying experience might soon undergo a transformation. Instead of needing to check-in or having a boarding pass, all travelers will need is a facial recognition system along with a phone. This is touted to be one of the most important developments in air travel in the last five decades. Globally, the aviation sector is now working on designing a system under the supervision of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization). It is branded as ‘Digital Travel Credential’. In this entire procedure, it will be done by a smartphone and face scan.

UK aviation industry experts believe that if the new technology is implemented and accepted on a mass scale, it can come into adoption within two to three years. The Times also mentions that this update means that airlines will not require any prior check-in process or thee boarding passes physically. Passengers check-in and receive a 'Journey Pass' on their mobile devices which would include vital details such as passport information and seat number. The best example of a single event transforming the aviation industry in the last half a century is the COVID-19 pandemic.

Viale, as a director of product management at the world’s largest travel technology company, Amadeus, makes it clear where things are going. Everything shits towards face recognition systems.

In a worst case scenario, a passenger would show up with a bag that they intend to leave at baggage check; physically, a passport wouldn't be needed; everything else is strictly facial recognition unlike border control, where these passengers don't need boarding passes.

Judging by past trends, security scans will soon be considered antiquated; so much shouldn’t surprise faces, as their mask-less peers who fit the usual criteria will have already cleared check in.

Obtain passport, have to file signaled touch; check-in counters along with support kiosks grant remote access. This lists all actions available online or at the airport. Scanning ID cards or passports in exchange for a digitized badge imitates the habitual, which won’t exist alongside future plans.

Does not require human involvement. A terminal grants autonomous passage. Solo, contracting instead enlists entire classes as spectators.

Viale as quoted said limits are imaginary.
